Editorial
Carcinogenesis looks forward to another successful year in service to the scientific community. Carcinogenesis has a long tradition in broadly covering the field of cancer research, which is reflected in its four sections cancer biology, cancer prevention, carcinogenesis and molecular epidemiology. Therefore, we have added the subtitle of integrative cancer research in 2008. The high quality and timeliness of the original articles and reviews that the journal publishes is evidence of our success. In addition, we remain one of the few journals in the field of cancer research that does not apply page charges and that publishes accepted manuscripts online within 1 week on average (through the Advance Access facility). Authors can also choose to publish their work under an optional open access model (http://www.oxfordjournals.org/oxfordopen/). Research published in Carcinogenesis is now immediately available to almost 6000 institutions with online access, including >2000 institutions through the developing countries initiative of Oxford University Press.
I sincerely thank my colleagues, Alan Clarke, Thomas Kensler and Takaski Takahaski for their service to the journal as Editors. The Editors handle >1000 submissions per year with the average time to a decision of 26 days and an acceptance rate of
25%. We also thank the large number of referees, including the outstanding members of the Editorial Board, who have rapidly and critically reviewed the submitted reports. We welcome 15 new Editorial Board members who begin their 3 year terms in 2008: Drs Stefan Ambs, Steven Belinsky, George Calin, David Christiani, Susan Fischer, William Kaufmann, Frederic Kaye, Hitoshi Nakagama, Domenico Palli, Choon Nam Ong, Shivendra Singh, Young-Joon Surh, Victor Velculescu, Keiji Wakabayashi and Pan-Chyr Yang.
We also thank those who rotate off the board including Drs Paolo Boffetta, Lisa Coussens, Pierre Hainaut, Monica Hollstein, Kohzoh Imai, Susan Lees-Miller, Thomas Lindahl, Christos Paraskeva, Leona Samson, Roland Wolf and Benjamin Wong.
Finally, the Editors appreciate Penny Brown for the efficiency and care in running the Carcinogenesis Editorial Office and the highly professional members of the Oxford Journals team, particularly Julia Jeans and Radha Dutia, for their continued support and advice.
